iHome iA100 vs iP90

The iHome company makes a various range of products. They are all meant to be a perfect integration for the Apple portable devices, in specific the iPod, iPhone and iPad. The company, which has been into the marketplace for several years, wants to provide the Apple user with the possibility to use their favourite mp3 players or phones also as alarm clocks or to listen to the music inside in a bigger stereo system.
Among the products from iHome there are two that are worth considering. These are the flagship product, the iA100, and its little brother the iP90. They share some features, however they are also different somehow. Let's discover the commonalities and the differences.

The Difference Between the iHome iA100 vs iP90

Commonalities

One of the feature that the iA100 and the iP90 share is the possibility to integrate them with Apple iPods and iPhones and use the music inside of their playlists as alarm sounds. This allows the user to listen to his or her favourite songs waking up or even going asleep. They both have programmable snooze time, from 1 up to 29 minutes, and the gradual wake up and sleep functions. This way there are no chances of having sudden loud noises waking up.
Another thing they share is the Time sync functionality. This allows to syncronize the iPhone or iPod time with the alarm. This way, there's no more chance to wake up too early or too late because the times are different between the clock and our Phone.
The alarm, on both products, can be adjusted to have different times for different days of the week. For instance, from Monday to Friday the alarm can be set to 7am and on Saturdays it can be set to 10am.
The sound has been studied on both products to deliver high quality and a great experience for the user. They share Reson8 speakers and an adjustable equalization section. The latter can be tweaked on the dock itself or using the remote control which is included.
They also share the 6 FM presets. Both the iA100 and the iP90, in fact, can have access to more than ten thousands radio stations using the application that has to be downloaded on the iPhone or iPod. With a little investment, the user has the chance to listen to all those radios and use them as wake up sounds as well.
The alarm sound can be mixed to include songs from the playlist of the iPhone or iPod, the sound from the radios or the standard buzzer.
Another thing in common is the aux-in jack at the back of the dock. With that, it's possible to plug in CD players or other devices that have the line out and listen to music through the Reson8 speakers.

Differences

The iA100 and the iP90 have a lot of things in common. However, they have also differences.
The biggest one, probably, is for iPad users. In fact, the IA100 has this feature, while its little brother doesn't. Good news for iPad owners.
The iHome iA100 has also bluetooth connectivity, meaning that music can be streamed from the iPad, iPhone or iPod using the bluetooth connectivity. This way, even if the Apple device is not plugged in, it's still possible to listen to music.
Talking about the audio quality, the iA100 has 4 speakers, not 2 as the iP90. They are two at the front, and 2 at the sides to increase the space the sound propagate to. Moreover, the circuitry has been developed by an external company in this product. They managed to handle one of the biggest challenges that all digital devices share, which is to provide good quality of sound, which means clarity and bass presence, without having the output of the circuit to peak and therefore distort the signal.
This might seem not so important, however in digital devices this can make a great difference and with the iA100 iHome raised the bar in terms of quality of sound.
